old spitalfields market

back in london with jana, on the 29th of april 2011...the day of the royal wedding. with an extra 1,000,000 people surging through london today, jana & i opted for a visit to the east end to avoid the crowds. old spitalfields is a closed-roof market held in an old, brick, victorian-style warehouse - just off brick lane. we got here around lunchtime, & there were a tonne of different stalls selling a heap of diff things. we laid our eyes upon animal-inspired broaches, 2nd-hand clothing, old books & banksy prints (banksy has done alot of pieces in and around the east end, including his supposed 'self-portrait' with the trademark rat stencil).

i love this part of london & will definitely be back before i leave the uk - not least of all because this week the east end film festival is taking place. the best part - the majority of the films are free. tops!

when it started to get dark, we headed to the victoria palace theatre to see billy elliot, the musical. it was, hands down, incredible. i would even go so far as saying it's better than the movie. big call, i know. there was even a cute lil' 3 y/old as one of the actors - complètement fou! the actor who played billy was only something like 10 years old...wish i could tap dance like that when i was 10...

a day at the markets & a night in the london theatre district brought jana to the end of her stay in the uk. now it's back to deutschland for her, and just a few more days till i set off for the city of lights. still have plenty of things to keep me busy while i'm here...just one of the great things about london - there's always something new to see & it's impossible to find yourself with nothing to do.

danke jana, for an amazing week!
