le mur des je t'aime

"the wall of i love you's". a wall covered in deep blue tiles with white "i love you's" written across it, in almost every language possible. it was so strange stumbling across this at a little square/park near abbesses with noah, because i'd seen it two years previously when i visited paris at the end of my student exchange. at the time of course, i didn't realise that i was in montmartre - so you can imagine my surprise at finding it here again, practically on my doorstep.

crazy coincidence to be back here - standing in exactly the same spot without realising. too weird! while noah was off making playground pals i tried to spot the languages & find the general ones. i managed to lay my eyes on i love you, je t'aime, ti voglio, ti amo, ich liebe dich & ik hou van jou... but that's about as much as i could recognise... however another wall-gazer pointed out the hungarian szeretlek to me.

i love that this wall is tucked away in a small green in montmartre. it's crossing paths unintentionally with things & places like this that make me love this city even more...

lomography prints

just a couple of prints from my lil' lomography cam that i brought over with me. after three months in europe, i've finally finished & got around to developing the roll of film... it was so great to flick through the prints when i got them back - i'd forgotten about some of the photos i'd taken...
they're not really in any chronological order, but i've tried to point out where each one was snapped, at least..!

in other news - i've started my french language course, twice a week in the 19ème arrondissement. strange feeling working from a textbook again after all these months doing nothing...altho if i'm being honest, we don't do much in the class ;)
the au pair mama & papa have gone to israel for a week, which (as of tomorrow) leaves me with a free house, sans enfants until monday. the weather just keeps getting better and better, with every day in the high 20's - perfect weather for exploring/soaking up paris..!

will update again soon - but i've just heard noah (one of the little frenchies that i'm looking after) wake up from his sieste...

à la prochaine fois!

brocantes aux abbesses

living in montmartre means living on a hill ...which means there are ten's of narrow steps to climb & descend whenever venturing out into the other arrondissements/down to the metro. i'm close to a few different metro stations, one of them = abbesses. the entrance to the metro is in the centre of place des abbesses, and is one of the only remaining metro's with the art nouveau architectcture at its entrance.
when i arrived jelly-legged at the bottom of five flights of stairs, i was met by the brocantes aux abbesses, a small flea-market in the square. it was bustling with people, and it was so different to see the square full of market stalls & furniture - as opposed to its normal park benches & fountain. i was able to sink into a squishy old armchair while looking through a haphazard collection of yellowing books. i found a french-translated version of the diary of anne frank for 50c - thought it could be an interesting read after visiting her hideaway house in amsterdam last week...

i easily spent over an hour here...it was just way too relaxing being there with the dappled sun shining through the trees, giving the whole market a yellow-y, golden light. i don't know when the brocantes will be here again (if ever), i think it might be linked to the marché aux puces st-ouen de clignancourt, another flea-market (on a much more colossssssal scale) nearby...

i disappeared down the metro - one of paris' deepest at 36m below ground (aka 7 flights of a spiral staircase....so dizzying..). the walls are covered in murals the entire way down, pretty cool. i'm just glad i was going down the stairs, not up...
